MAY BIKE HASH Sat 31st Godalming 12:00 prompt
START FROM: GODALMING Railway Station car park
PUB / FOOD at END: Jack Phillips (JD Wetherspoon) - Address: 48 - 56 High
Street, Godalming, Surrey, GU7 1AU.
Real ale and food all day. 5 mins walk from station.
(There is a possibility that pub will change, but it will be marked from
station)
HARES: "Dunny Penny" & "Rentboy"
TRAIL: 2.5 hours bike trail starting and finishing at the station.
The ride is 70% off road, takes in undulating heathland, great views, shady
pine forest and lush river valleys in the quiet Surrey countryside.
Plenty of fun descents, and little or no mud (or boggy sand) when it was
recce'd.
This time, we head SOUTH of Godalming, so you get to slog up a completely
new hill at the start.
GETTING THERE:
By train:
Two trains per hour from London.
Best arrival time is 12:00.
London Waterloo dep 11:15
Clapham Junction dep 11:22
Woking dep 11:43
Guildford dep 11:52
Godalming arr 12:00
( last train back leaves Godalming at 23:29 )
By car:
Godalming is 8km South West of Guilford.
Approach via A3.
Recommended route - stay on A3 south of Guildford, then left on B3000
signposted Compton/Godalming, then right on B3100 to Godalming.
Attached picture shows route to station once you have crossed river into
Godalming
CAR PARKING: Plenty of parking at the station. Car parking is free to rail
users at the weekends.
PS. Not normally checked but be aware if you're not using the train (the
cheapest rail ticket is GBP 1,40.... for a single from Godalming to
Farncombe which compares quite well with the GBP 3,80 car park fee).
